Punjab National Bank (PNB) has reported a net profit of Rs 5,253 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. The profit surged 213.6 per cent compared to Rs 1,675 crore in the same period last year, supported by healthier earnings, lower bad loans, and steady business growth.
The bank’s return on assets improved to 1.04 per cent, while its global net interest margin rose to 2.50 per cent, reflecting better profitability. Capital strength also improved, with the Capital Adequacy Ratio reaching 18.13 per cent, giving the bank a stronger financial cushion.
PNB’s overall global business expanded 10.2 per cent year-on-year to Rs 29.98 lakh crore. Global deposits climbed 8.5 per cent to Rs 17.24 lakh crore, while advances increased 12.7 per cent to Rs 12.73 lakh crore, resulting in a higher credit-deposit ratio of 73.8 per cent.
The bank continued to improve its asset quality. Gross Non-Performing Assets declined to 2.78 per cent, while Net Non-Performing Assets reduced to 0.28 per cent. In absolute terms, gross NPAs fell by Rs 7,292 crore and net NPAs declined by Rs 699 crore compared with a year ago.
On the deposit side, savings deposits rose 7.2 per cent to Rs 5.34 lakh crore, while current deposits increased 12.3 per cent. CASA deposits reached Rs 6.13 lakh crore, with the CASA ratio standing at 36.7 per cent.
Retail and priority sector lending remained a major growth driver. Vehicle loans posted a strong 34.4 per cent increase, MSME advances grew 19.8 per cent, agriculture advances rose 16.4 per cent, and housing loans expanded 11.9 per cent over the previous year.
Operating profit increased 6.2 per cent to Rs 7,519 crore, while net interest income grew 2.1 per cent. Fee-based income also registered healthy growth, reflecting stronger non-interest revenue generation.
PNB also recorded significant progress in digital banking. Digital transactions increased 24 per cent, PNB One users grew 19 per cent, and WhatsApp Banking users doubled over the past year. The bank also expanded the use of the Central Bank Digital Currency platform and introduced “Project Sentinel” to strengthen fraud detection through advanced transaction analysis.
Its branch network stood at 10,361 branches, supported by over 10,600 ATMs and more than 33,000 Banking Correspondents, helping the bank strengthen its reach across urban and rural India.
During the quarter, PNB also received several recognitions, including the Golden Peacock National Training Award, Platinum Awards at the Infosys Finacle Innovation Awards, and honours for climate finance and pension scheme performance.
