Axis Bank posts 23 per cent rise in Q1 profit

Axis Bank reported a strong start to FY27 with a 23 per cent year-on-year increase in standalone net profit to Rs 7,114 crores for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, driven by steady business growth, healthy operating performance and resilient asset quality. The bank also recorded double-digit growth in both deposits and advances while continuing to strengthen its digital banking capabilities.

Net Interest Income for the quarter rose 8 per cent year-on-year to Rs 14,646 crores, while core operating profit increased 10 per cent to Rs 11,122 crores. Operating profit stood at Rs 11,659 crores as the bank maintained cost discipline despite continued investments in technology and customer-focused initiatives.

Axis Bank’s balance sheet expanded 20 per cent year-on-year to Rs 19,21,966 crores. Total deposits grew 18 per cent year-on-year, supported by strong momentum in term deposits and savings accounts, while net advances increased 19 per cent. The bank also witnessed robust growth across SME, corporate and mid-corporate lending, reflecting sustained credit demand across business segments.

Asset quality remained stable during the quarter, with the Gross Non-Performing Asset ratio improving to 1.28 per cent from 1.57 per cent a year ago. The Net Non-Performing Asset ratio stood at 0.39 per cent, while the bank’s net credit cost declined to 0.63 per cent, highlighting continued strength in risk management and recoveries.

During the quarter, Axis Bank accelerated investments in digital transformation by introducing Aadhaar Face Authentication for mobile number updates, AI-powered compliance solutions for current account customers and a Digital Locker-focused branch format. The lender also partnered with Flipkart and PayU to enable biometric authentication for card payments, further enhancing digital security and customer convenience.

The bank continued to reinforce its leadership in digital payments, maintaining around 38 per cent market share in the UPI Payer PSP segment while adding nearly 0.9 million new credit cards during the quarter. Axis Mobile also remained among the highest-rated banking applications globally, supported by nearly 16 million monthly active users.

He said continued investments in digital security, artificial intelligence, ecosystem partnerships and customer experience are aimed at creating sustainable long-term value for customers, shareholders and communities.

The quarter also saw Axis Bank strengthen its long-term growth strategy through strategic partnerships, including a Rs 100-crore collaboration with BITS Pilani to establish an Industry Research, Technology and Innovation Park, while Axis Finance announced a Rs 2,250-crore capital infusion to support expansion across retail, MSME and wholesale lending businesses.
