Delhi Metro partners with Airtel Payments Bank to launch RuPay ‘On-The-Go’ cards

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has partnered with Airtel Payments Bank to launch co-branded RuPay ‘On-The-Go’ National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC), aimed at enhancing commuter convenience through integrated travel and payment solutions.

The newly introduced cards are designed to support travel across Delhi Metro and other open-loop transport systems under the ‘One Nation, One Card’ initiative. In addition to metro travel, the cards can be used for bus journeys, toll payments, parking, retail purchases, ATM withdrawals, and e-commerce transactions.

The cards are expected to be available across all DMRC stations in the coming days, enabling easy access for daily commuters. Users will also be able to recharge the cards digitally through the DMRC app and Airtel Thanks app, reducing dependency on physical recharge counters.

The partnership was announced in the presence of senior officials from both organisations, including Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, DMRC, and Anubrata Biswas, Managing Director and CEO, Airtel Payments Bank.

The RuPay On-The-Go cards are enabled with National Common Mobility Card technology and support contactless payments. Airtel Payments Bank stated that the cards are equipped with EMV chip-based security features and support both online and offline transactions.

As part of the initiative, Airtel Payments Bank has also introduced NFC-enabled balance update functionality, allowing users to check and update card balances through NFC-enabled Android smartphones.

Existing Delhi Metro cards will continue to remain operational, while DMRC plans to further promote NCMC-based mobility solutions to support integrated digital transport systems.
