Bank of Baroda has introduced UPI Global Reverse Acceptance, a new facility designed to make digital payments easier for international visitors travelling across India.
The initiative allows international tourists, overseas Indians and eligible users of foreign wallets and payment applications to make QR-based merchant payments through Bank of Baroda’s UPI QR network. Visitors can use supported banking or payment applications from their home countries to scan a Bank of Baroda UPI QR code and complete transactions with greater convenience.
The service supports cross-border Person-to-Merchant transactions and aligns with the broader vision of building greater interoperability in global digital payments. Visitors from countries including Singapore, UAE, Nepal, Bhutan, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, the USA, Qatar and France, among others, can benefit from the expanding international payments ecosystem.
By reducing reliance on cash and foreign currency exchange, the facility aims to offer travellers a more familiar payment experience while helping Bank of Baroda merchants serve a wider international customer base.
Sanjay Mudaliar, Executive Director, Bank of Baroda, said the initiative marks an important step towards making digital payments more accessible across borders. He noted that allowing visitors to use payment applications they are already familiar with can improve convenience for travellers while opening new opportunities for merchants.
The launch also strengthens Bank of Baroda’s merchant acquiring network and supports the development of a more globally connected digital payments ecosystem. Through UPI Global Reverse Acceptance, the bank continues to support the Digital India vision by promoting innovative, accessible and internationally interoperable payment solutions for consumers and businesses.
