The Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD), under the Digital India Corporation (DIC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the initiative titled “BHASHINI for Seva / Sanchalan – A BHASHINI Sahayogi Program” to integrate advanced language AI models into India’s banking and financial ecosystem.
The agreement marks a strategic collaboration to enhance multilingual access to banking and financial services, promoting deeper financial inclusion across India’s diverse linguistic landscape.
Under the MoU, BHASHINI’s language AI models will be deployed within RBI’s ecosystem, alongside the co-development of a banking-specific language model tailored to financial terminology. The initiative also includes the enrichment of linguistic datasets through the “Bhashadaan” programme to strengthen multilingual AI systems for institutional use.
As part of the collaboration, the two entities will jointly develop a domain-specific language model for the banking sector to be known as “Banking BHASHINI.” The model will incorporate banking terminology, regulatory frameworks, and sector-specific use cases. It is designed to deliver strong contextual accuracy across multiple Indian languages and will support the development of reference applications and voice-enabled interfaces aimed at improving customer interaction and accessibility.
The collaboration further focuses on expanding structured linguistic contributions through the “Bhashadaan” initiative to enhance the performance and scalability of AI systems. These efforts will be undertaken under the broader BHASHINI Sahayogi framework, ensuring that the models remain adaptable to the evolving needs of the financial sector.
The initiative seeks to strengthen multilingual access across all 22 languages recognised under the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India, enabling broader outreach to citizens across regions.
This strategic partnership underscores the Reserve Bank of India’s commitment to leveraging indigenous AI capabilities and reinforces the role of BHASHINI as India’s national-scale language infrastructure. Together, the institutions aim to build secure, interoperable, and inclusive multilingual AI systems for critical governance and institutional domains, with a special focus on advancing financial services accessibility for all citizens.
