Google Pay launches Flex to simplify everyday credit in India

Google Pay has unveiled Flex, a digital UPI‑enabled credit card in partnership with Axis Bank, built on the RuPay network, designed to make everyday borrowing seamless and convenient for millions of Indians. Users can apply for the card entirely within the Google Pay app, with instant approval and no paperwork required. Once approved, the card provides flexible repayment options, real-time rewards redemption, and in-app controls to manage spending limits and security settings.

The launch comes at a time when India has widespread adoption of UPI payments but relatively low credit card penetration, with only around 50 million cardholders nationwide. Flex aims to bridge this gap by offering transactional credit as intuitively as UPI payments, empowering users to manage their finances easily and responsibly.

Flex is designed not only for convenience but also to promote financial inclusion. Users earn instant rewards on every transaction, redeemable within the app, making everyday spending more rewarding. The card supports EMI conversions for larger purchases and provides full visibility over spending, allowing users to track and control their financial habits digitally.

Google Pay intends to expand Flex to additional issuing partners in the near future, broadening access to digital credit across both urban and rural India. By integrating borrowing seamlessly into its existing UPI platform, Google Pay Flex represents a step forward in creating a truly cashless and financially inclusive ecosystem.
