Axis Bank has launched a new feature allowing customers to update their registered mobile numbers through Aadhaar Face Authentication on its mobile banking app. With this, the bank becomes the first among India’s leading banks to offer this service as a fully digital do-it-yourself journey.
The solution enables customers to update their mobile numbers anytime through a secure three-step process that includes entering the new number, completing Aadhaar Face Authentication, and validating an OTP sent to the updated number. The authentication process uses a live facial image matched with Aadhaar records to ensure secure customer validation.
To enhance security further, the bank has introduced an additional safeguard where mobile banking transaction limits are reset to default for the first 24 hours after the update and re-registration on the app.
The feature complements existing branch services while offering a more convenient and secure digital alternative for customers. It is part of the bank’s broader strategy to strengthen digital-first, customer-centric banking experiences using advanced authentication technologies.
Sameer Shetty, Group Executive – Digital Business, Transformation and Strategic Programs, Axis Bank, stated that the initiative strengthens customer validation while providing a reliable and intuitive self-service option under the bank’s Safe Banking approach.
This development builds on the bank’s existing safety ecosystem, which includes features such as Safety Centre, Lock FD, and in-app mobile OTP, aimed at enhancing customer control and protection against digital fraud risks.
