Bharat Housing Network raises USD 5 million in green bonds from Symbiotics

Bharat Housing Network (BHN) has raised USD 5 million, approximately Rs 47 crore, in green bonds from Symbiotics Investments as part of a USD 75 million green basket bond programme structured by Symbiotics in partnership with British International Investment (BII), the UK’s development finance institution and impact investor.

The funding will be deployed through BHN’s group NBFC, Singularity Creditworld Pvt Ltd, towards sustainable assets across rooftop solar, electric mobility and financing for new-age clean technology micro, small and medium enterprises. The initiative is aimed at expanding access to green finance beyond India’s major metropolitan centres and into Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets.

BHN has so far enabled nearly Rs 2,000 crore in credit for more than 40,000 low- and middle-income borrowers. Its financing activities have supported the installation of 7,162 KW of rooftop solar capacity and the purchase of more than 800 electric vehicles, with the company estimating potential carbon dioxide emissions savings of around 1,01,500 tonnes.

The latest financing adds to BHN’s focus on sustainable lending through its technology and infrastructure platform, which supports capital deployment across mortgages, clean energy, mobility and gold loans. The company is part of the Homeville Group and was founded by Lalit Menghani, Madhusudan Sharma and Prasad Ajinkya.

BHN is backed by investors including NABVENTURES, 100Unicorns, Varanium, Riverwalk and LC Nueva, while its debt funding relationships include State Bank of India, GMO, ICICI Bank, IDFC FIRST Bank and AU Small Finance Bank.

The company is also targeting green bond issuances of up to USD 25 million by the end of FY27. The planned fundraising is expected to support the expansion of green asset financing while increasing access to capital for sustainable businesses and retail borrowers.

Keyur Vinchhi, SVP – Strategy and Business Development, Bharat Housing Network, said the partnership with Symbiotics reflects the company’s focus on inclusive and sustainable lending. He added that the financing comes as India’s energy transition expands beyond metropolitan markets, with BHN planning to use its co-lending platform and secured lending capabilities across green financing segments.

Prashant Bhardwaj, Regional Manager, South Asia, Symbiotics, said the partnership with Bharat Housing Network supports the organisation’s focus on sustainable development in emerging and frontier economies. He added that the financing is expected to contribute to the expansion of green and sustainable lending in India.

Through the latest green bond financing, BHN plans to broaden its lending support for renewable energy, electric mobility and clean-tech enterprises while extending sustainable finance to borrowers and businesses in emerging markets across the country.
