Creating opportunity through digital access

MOS World brings banking, insurance, travel, utility, courier, entertainment, and digital marketing services together through a single platform. What was the vision behind creating such a broad ecosystem, and how do you ensure it continues to solve real needs for customers and partners?

The vision behind MOS World was rooted in a simple observation: for customers in underserved and semi-urban markets, access is often limited. Banking, insurance, payments, travel, entertainment, and other essential services do exist, but accessing them through multiple platforms creates complexity and friction, especially for customers who are digitally averse.

Hence, we built MOS around an assisted, technology-led model that brings multiple services closer to the customer through a trusted local network. Today, our B2B2C model is supported by over 2,00,000 agents and 15,000+ distributors spread across the country.

For us, creating this ecosystem was never about adding services with an intent to scale. It was about increasing the value of every customer interaction, empowering small, local entrepreneurs, especially women, to participate meaningfully in the formal financial ecosystem, and equipping them with resources that will help them cater to more customer needs from a single point of service. Our focus continues to stay on providing accessibility, affordability, and real-time service delivery, while also bolstering our technology and partnerships to ensure the ecosystem remains relevant to the communities we serve.

Financial inclusion remains a major opportunity in India, particularly across underserved and rural communities. What role do you believe technology and MOS World’s agent network can play in making financial and essential services more accessible?

Yes, technology helps to scale financial services; but to reach the last mile, technology alone is not sufficient. Especially when dealing with communities where financial literacy and digital adoption are still developing, trust, familiarity, and human assistance play a critical role.

This is where our agent network comes into play. Our agents serve as trusted local networks providing banking, digital payments, insurance, and other essential services to local customers. With the help of technology, they assist local communities in navigating services, while also building awareness and financial confidence at the grassroots level.

Through this robust network and on-ground initiatives such as MOS Seva Kendra (MSK) that we have built across 2400 cities and towns in India, we aim to ensure that people are not left out of the formal financial ecosystem simply because of where they live. At the same time, our model creates earning opportunities for local entrepreneurs, including women entrepreneurs, and enables them to build sustainable livelihoods.

MOS has built a business model around empowering local retailers and agents to become one-stop service providers. What have you learned about creating sustainable opportunities for small businesses while scaling a nationwide network?

One of our biggest learnings has been that sustainable last-mile expansion is possible only when the local entrepreneurs see a clear business opportunity. When a neighbourhood shop can offer more services from the same counter, it can serve more customer needs while creating additional earning opportunities for the entrepreneur.

This is the thinking behind our MOS Seva Kendra model and our vision of Har Dukkan Seva Kendra. When neighbourhood shops offer banking, credit, insurance, digital payments, e-commerce and other essential services, they become trusted service points within their communities and part of a wider financial services delivery network.

Our focus is not just on giving retailers access to technology, but also on helping them understand and use it effectively. This is especially important for local entrepreneurs, including women, who can use these opportunities to build sustainable livelihoods while becoming trusted Seva Kendra points for people in their communities.

However, scaling this business model never comes at the cost of quality for us. We give utmost priority to agent training, real-time platform monitoring, and continuous process improvement so that our partners have both, the tools and knowledge needed to serve customers reliably. For us, the success of the network is ultimately linked to the success of the entrepreneurs within it.

With services spanning banking, insurance, payments, travel, and digital commerce, how do you approach technology, trust, and security to deliver a seamless experience across such a diverse ecosystem?

For us, the biggest principle is that convenience cannot come at the cost of trust or security. When you are bringing multiple financial and essential services onto one platform, customers should be able to access them seamlessly, and they must also feel confident that every transaction is being handled responsibly.

A large part of this comes down to the capabilities of the ecosystem around the technology. Our agents are often the last-mile touchpoint for customers, especially in underserved markets. Hence, we focus heavily on their training, ongoing support, and real-time monitoring. They need to understand not just how to use the platform, but also how to guide customers responsibly and identify potential risks.

On the technology side, we continuously monitor transactions and platform activity, while working with established financial institutions and service partners to maintain the necessary standards around reliability and security. This is particularly critical for us as we continue to add more services to the ecosystem. Ultimately, our goal is not to simply build a platform that offers more services, but one that customers can rely on for those services.

Looking ahead, what are the biggest growth opportunities for MOS World, and how do you envision the platform evolving as India moves toward a more digitally connected and financially inclusive economy?

We see a great opportunity in strengthening the role of local entrepreneurs and small businesses in India’s digital economy. MSMEs and neighbourhood shops are the building blocks of Bharat’s growth story, and when they are equipped with the right digital and financial tools, they can do much more for their customers and their own businesses.

Our immediate focus is to build towards a regulated, growth-oriented ecosystem, and align more closely with the country’s vision for a digitally-connected and financially inclusive economy. At the same time, we want to expand the range of services available through our existing network. We want to enable more agents and merchant to serve more customer needs through the same platform, rather than having them depend on multiple systems and service providers. This will help us create a stronger business proposition for our partners and improve convenience for customers.

For us, the next phase is therefore about expanding our reach, promoting a regulated, growth-oriented ecosystem, increasing the range of services on the platform, and bolstering our agent and merchant network. By making these opportunities accessible at the grassroots level, we believe we can attain growth in a more sustainable manner with India’s digital economy.
