Razorpay partners with Sarvam to enable voice-first commerce in India

Razorpay has announced a partnership with Sarvam, India’s full-stack sovereign AI platform, to power the next generation of voice-first, conversational commerce.

By combining Sarvam’s models and agentic stack with Razorpay’s agentic payments infrastructure, the partnership will enable customers to discover products, place orders, and complete payments simply by conversing in their language. The experience will initially launch with Swiggy as an early partner within Sarvam’s chat platform, Indus App, allowing customers to order food by speaking directly to an AI assistant.

India is uniquely positioned for this shift, with over 950 million internet users and more than 450 million digital payment users on UPI, yet only around 200 million people currently shop online. Many digitally connected users still find traditional e-commerce platforms complex or difficult to navigate, while voice interactions are rapidly emerging as a more natural way to access digital services.

The partnership aims to unlock a new phase of digital commerce where conversations become the primary interface. By integrating Sarvam’s AI capabilities with Razorpay’s payments stack, the companies aim to enable AI agents that can understand conversational inputs across Indian languages and complete financial transactions seamlessly within a single interaction.

The collaboration will introduce conversational commerce within Sarvam’s chat platform, Indus App, where Swiggy, Sarvam, and Razorpay are enabling customers to order food through voice interactions. The AI agent manages the entire journey, from understanding the request to placing the order and completing payment using Razorpay’s infrastructure powered by National Payments Corporation of India’s UPI Reserve Pay.

Businesses will also be able to embed voice-led commerce into their own platforms. As part of an early pilot, a conversational voice assistant has been developed for The Derma Co’s website, enabling customers to discover products and complete purchases using voice in their preferred language.

Shashank Kumar, MD and Co-founder, Razorpay, said the partnership reflects a shift towards more intuitive digital experiences where users can transact simply by speaking in their own language. Dr Pratyush Kumar, CEO and Co-founder of Sarvam, highlighted the importance of enabling conversations to translate directly into completed actions, while Madhusudhan Rao, CTO of Swiggy, emphasised the role of multilingual AI and seamless payments in improving accessibility and convenience for users.

Sarvam’s technology stack will also be integrated into Razorpay’s Agent Studio, enabling developers to build AI agents capable of interacting with customers in Hindi, Hinglish, and other Indian languages, making it easier for businesses to deploy multilingual conversational solutions.

By combining conversational AI, multilingual voice interfaces, and secure payments infrastructure, Razorpay and Sarvam are working to create AI-native commerce experiences where everyday transactions can be completed through simple conversations.
