PhonePe launches ‘Bolt’ to enable one-click card payments

PhonePe Payment Gateway (PhonePe PG) has launched PhonePe PG Bolt for Visa and Mastercard credit and debit card transactions, aiming to simplify and secure in-app payments for users and merchants.

The solution uses device tokenization to replace sensitive card details with secure digital tokens, allowing users to complete payments without repeatedly entering card information.

With Bolt, customers only need to tokenize their Visa or Mastercard once on the PhonePe app. After that, the saved card can be used across all merchants integrated with PhonePe PG on the same device, removing the need to re-tokenize cards for every new merchant. Since real card numbers and CVVs are no longer required for subsequent transactions, the checkout process becomes faster and more secure.

The new flow also eliminates redirection to external pages, keeping users within the merchant’s app while they complete their payment. This reduces the number of steps involved in checkout and improves overall user experience, especially for repeat transactions.

Yuvraj Singh Shekhawat, Chief Business Officer of Merchant Business, PhonePe Limited, said the launch marks an important step in making digital payments easier and more seamless for Indian consumers. He added that device tokenization enables a one-click payment experience that not only improves convenience for users but also helps merchants achieve better transaction success rates and lower drop-offs.

For merchants, Bolt is integrated through PhonePe’s native SDK, allowing for quicker processing and higher success rates by eliminating manual card entry and reducing technical hand-offs. The solution also offers a customizable interface that fits directly into a merchant’s existing app design, ensuring brand consistency while improving conversion rates.
