Karnataka Bank partners with IBM to modernise API platform

Karnataka Bank Limited has announced a partnership with IBM to upgrade its digital banking infrastructure through the deployment of IBM Cloud Pak for Integration on Red Hat OpenShift.

The implementation, carried out by IBM ecosystem partner Fyrii with support from IBM’s Customer Success Team, has delivered a strengthened API platform designed to reduce costs and enhance scalability across the Bank’s digital operations.

The modernised platform enables faster roll-out of digital payments, loan products and partner integrations, while ensuring secure connectivity with both internal and external networks. The upgrade has increased scalability by 50 per cent and reduced operational costs by 30 per cent, aided by container-optimised microservices. The new architecture also incorporates digital gateways for API traffic and an AI Gateway that allows partners to access the Bank’s AI models. The system now supports improved linkages with UIDAI, CERSAI, GST, Reg-Tech and CBDT, enabling quicker responses to regulatory and market developments.

Venkat Krishnan, Chief Information Officer, Karnataka Bank, said, “This marks a major milestone in our digital journey. With IBM Cloud Pak for Integration on Red Hat OpenShift, we now have an agile and secure platform that allows us to scale operations across India, simplify system management, and reduce costs, all while improving the overall customer experience.”

Viswanath Ramaswamy, Vice President, Technology, IBM India & South Asia, noted, “Today’s banking sector is more complex than ever, comprising many systems and data sources in constant use. To stay ahead, banks require intelligent automation that not only streamlines operations but also anticipates issues before they arise. Karnataka Bank’s modernisation showcases how intelligent automation and integrated systems can reduce complexity, boost efficiency and accelerate the delivery of secure, reliable digital services at scale.”

Padma Subramanian, Co-founder and CEO, Fyrii, added, “As IBM’s implementation partner, we at Fyrii are proud to support Karnataka Bank’s modernisation journey by leveraging our Unified Fintech Platform alongside IBM Cloud Pak for Integration. This collaboration with IBM and Karnataka Bank demonstrates how we at Fyrii use our platform to accelerate digital transformation with greater agility and secure API enablement, helping form a foundation for the bank to innovate and serve customers seamlessly.”
