Infibeam Avenues wins RBI approval to power offline retail transactions

Infibeam Avenues has received approval from the Reserve Bank of India to operate as an offline payment aggregator.

With this newly granted license, the company can now support in-store payments through its POS devices that accept UPI, cards, and QR-based transactions.

The approval significantly expands Infibeam’s footprint across India’s physical retail ecosystem. The company had introduced its SoundBox Max device last year, and this authorization enables it to scale the rollout of its POS solutions more confidently while meeting stringent regulatory requirements.

This development also marks the company’s fourth major RBI license in the payments space. Infibeam Avenues already holds approvals for online payment aggregation and Bharat Bill Pay, and it recently received an in-principle nod to issue prepaid payment instruments.

According to FY25 company data, Infibeam processed Rs 8.67 lakh crore in transactions across its payments and platform services, serving over 10 million merchants across India and international markets.

Vishwas Patel, Joint Managing Director of Infibeam Avenues, said the company’s compliance-first strategy continues to drive its growth momentum. He noted that the offline aggregator license will enable systematic deployment of POS devices nationwide, aligning with the rising adoption of POS systems in India’s expanding economy.

Infibeam’s regulatory progress extends beyond domestic borders as well. In October, its subsidiary IA Fintech received an in-principle Payment Service Provider license from the International Financial Services Centres Authority at GIFT City, empowering it to offer services such as escrow management, cross-border transfers, and global merchant acquisition.
