Cashfree launches In-Chat payments extension for AI apps

Cashfree Payments has unveiled Cashfree Here in collaboration with Mastercard and Swiggy.

Cashfree Here enables businesses to accept UPI and card payments directly within conversational AI interfaces such as ChatGPT and Claude. The extension brings PCI-compliant, in-chat checkout capabilities to platforms built using OpenAI’s Apps SDK and Anthropic’s MCP framework, addressing a key gap in AI-driven commerce where payments typically redirect users outside chat environments.

The company said the launch builds on its earlier rollout of Agentic Payments, which allowed AI agents to manage payment conversations. With Cashfree Here, payment user interfaces are now rendered directly inside AI chat applications, enabling end-to-end conversational commerce without disrupting user flow.

Card payments within AI apps are secured through passkey-based biometric authentication supported by Mastercard, offering an alternative to traditional OTP-based flows. The integration allows users to complete transactions without leaving the conversation, reducing friction and drop-offs at critical decision points.

Nitin Pulyani, SVP and Head of Product, Cashfree Payments, said commerce is entering an AI-first era where users ask rather than browse, and payments must evolve accordingly. He noted that embedding payments natively within AI conversations creates a new model for how businesses sell and engage customers.

Gautam Aggarwal, President, India & South Asia, Mastercard, highlighted the importance of maintaining trust as commerce shifts into AI-driven environments.

Madhusudhan Rao, CTO, Swiggy, added that seamless payments are essential as conversational AI becomes more central to everyday commerce across food delivery and quick commerce platforms.

Cashfree Payments said the extension not only simplifies integration for developers but also helps businesses monetise AI-led interactions at scale by improving conversion rates and preserving contextual trust within chat experiences.

Founded in 2015, Cashfree Payments processes transactions worth $80 billion annually for over one million businesses. The company is authorised by the Reserve Bank of India to operate as a payment aggregator for domestic and cross-border payments and is backed by investors including Y Combinator, State Bank of India and Krafton.
