Razorpay Curlec and NIPL bring UPI payments to Malaysia for Indian travellers

Razorpay, through its Malaysian entity Curlec, has partnered with NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) to enable UPI payments in Malaysia. This collaboration will allow Indian travellers to make instant, secure payments to local Malaysian merchants directly through their preferred UPI apps, with transactions settled in Malaysian ringgit.

The integration, formalised at the Global Fintech Fest 2025, marks a significant step in taking India’s homegrown digital payment innovation global. With over one million Indian tourists visiting Malaysia in 2024, the initiative aims to reduce cash dependence, lower forex costs, and simplify payment acceptance for both travellers and local businesses.

UPI, which processed nearly 20 billion transactions in September 2025, has revolutionised India’s payments ecosystem through real-time, secure transactions. By connecting to this system, Malaysian merchants can now tap into a massive base of Indian users familiar with UPI’s simplicity and reliability.

Commenting on the development, Shashank Kumar, MD & Co-founder, Razorpay, said, “With Curlec, we’re bringing the same innovation that powers India’s digital payments to Malaysia, helping travellers and businesses experience borderless, seamless transactions.”

Ritesh Shukla, CEO, NIPL, added, “Extending UPI’s reach to Malaysia enables Indian travellers to pay with ease abroad while boosting digital acceptance for Malaysian merchants, a win for both nations.”

The rollout reinforces Razorpay’s position as a leading force in FinTech innovation, following breakthroughs like UPI AutoPay, Turbo UPI, and AI-based payment solutions, while strengthening India’s role as a global leader in digital payments.
