Cashfree Payments has enabled Apple Pay support on international cards, a move aimed at reducing checkout drop-offs by as much as 75 per cent for Indian merchants catering to overseas buyers.
With the new feature integrated into its international payment gateway, businesses can now offer Apple Pay as a native checkout option for customers in markets such as the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, the United Arab Emirates and across Europe. The development comes just ahead of the festive season, a peak period for demand for Indian cultural and artisanal products from global buyers and the diaspora.
Nitin Pulyani, Head of Product, Cashfree Payments, said the integration reflects the firm’s vision of creating smoother payment experiences in cross-border commerce.
“By embedding Apple Pay, we are enabling Indian merchants to connect more seamlessly with international customers. It strengthens trust, reduces drop-offs, and improves conversions, while offering the ease and security global buyers expect,” he said.
Card-based payments account for more than half of e-commerce transactions in North America and over 40 per cent in Europe, according to Worldpay’s Global Payments Report 2024.
Yet until now, Indian merchants lacked the infrastructure to provide international consumers with a frictionless, wallet-based checkout experience. Customers were required to manually input card details, often leading to errors, failed transactions and abandoned purchases.
By leveraging biometric authentication and tokenised card data, Apple Pay support eliminates the need for manual entry, minimises fraud risk and ensures only verified device owners can initiate transactions.
This is expected to deliver significant gains for sectors such as travel, SaaS exports and global e-commerce, where transaction failures are especially costly.
The feature is live for all merchants using Cashfree’s international payment gateway and can be activated instantly through existing integrations. The support has been built directly into Cashfree’s technology stack, allowing merchants to benefit from the same dashboards, SDKs and reconciliation tools without additional setup.
The company recently announced support for more than 140 currencies on its platform, the widest range offered by any Indian FinTech. Together, these initiatives underline Cashfree’s ambition to strengthen its position as a leader in cross-border payments.
