Paytm Payments Services gets RBI nod to operate as online payment aggregator

Paytm Payments Services Limited (PPSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of One 97 Communications Limited, has received an ‘in-principle’ authorisation from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to operate as an online payment aggregator under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007.

The approval, granted via RBI’s letter dated August 12, 2025, follows PPSL’s application for a Payment Aggregator licence filed last year.

The authorisation allows PPSL to carry out online payment aggregation activities in compliance with the RBI’s Guidelines on Regulation of Payment Aggregators and Payment Gateways issued on March 17, 2020, along with subsequent clarifications.

The RBI also confirmed that merchant onboarding restrictions placed on PPSL in November 2022 have now been withdrawn.

The company stated that a copy of the RBI’s approval letter has been shared with the stock exchanges and will be made available on its website.
